Writing contest – 2025

AQED is launching the 2025 edition of its annual writing contest ! 

Does your child like to write stories? This is their chance to show their talent and win a prize!

Here’s everything you need to know:

Requirements:

  1. Texts submitted must be original creations, they must have been written for the competition and never published elsewhere.
  2. Any text that plagiarizes any other work (in part or in whole) will be automatically eliminated.
  3. Participants may choose any literary form: narrative, documentary, humorous, drama, poetry, essay, hybrid.
  4. Texts must respect the maximum word count by category: maximum 300 words for beginners, 300 to 600 words for intermediate and 500 to 800 words for advanced.
  5. Constraint:  Among the emotions experienced by the characters in the text, we must be able to identify at least 2 different emotions.

 

Conditions:

  1. Participants must be residents of Quebec and under 18 years of age.
  2. Entries must be submitted by an adult member of AQED.
  3. Proof of homeschooling may be required.
  4. AQED reserves the right to publish winners’ entries in whole or in part.
  5. Entries submitted in the wrong category will not be eligible.
  6. Any incomplete form (postal address, membership number, etc.) will also be ineligible.
  7. Entries submitted after the March 31, 2025 deadline will not be accepted.

 

Category information:

  1. Petites Plumes (Max 300 words)
    1. For young authors who are still learning to read and write. Short, simple stories, with plenty of imagination in a few sentences.
    2. Entry fees are designed for ages 7 and under, but this category is open to all young authors starting out, whatever their age.
  2. Plumes Curieuses (Max 600 words)
    1. More developed stories, but still in accessible, dynamic formats. 
    2. Prices are adapted to an audience of 8 years and over, while welcoming authors of all ages who wish to take up this challenge.
  3. Plumes Audacieuses (Max 1000 words)
    1. Richer, more nuanced texts, but limited in length to encourage conciseness and strength of ideas.  
    2. Entry prizes are aimed at an audience of 13 and over, but ambitious and inspired younger writers are also welcome.
